Funding is now available for Worcestershire's growing cyber sector businesses and to support local SMEs, trading business to business, to become more cyber secure.

In Detail

Small and medium sized businesses across Worcestershire are being encouraged to apply for funding to either improve cyber security or to grow an existing cyber sector business. Until 11 October 2018, SMEs in the county can apply to the Be Cyber Secure Grant Fund, a Capital and Revenue based grant scheme, for match funded grants of up to £20,000 to help improve cyber security or grow their cyber sector business.

The Be Cyber Secure programme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund and supported by Worcestershire County Council and local District Councils, is currently offering two separate grant funds. Security Grants will help SMEs to improve cyber security. This may include complying with GDPR, investing in networking equipment or gaining cyber security certification – such as Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001. Growth Grants will help cyber sector companies to grow their business through capital expenditure, marketing and product development.

EU Project Manager Wendy Garrad said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for small businesses in the county to show their customers they are aware of modern cyber threats and are doing what they can to keep their business and customer’s data safe. “ “We are also delighted to be able to support the thriving cyber sector here in Worcestershire through Be Cyber Secure Growth Grants, which will help internet security companies, app developers and computer technology firms in the region to reach their full potential.”

For both grants the current investment window runs from 17 September to 11 October 2018, and eligible businesses need to apply before the deadline if they don’t want to miss out.

To be eligible for a grant, businesses will need to be based in Worcestershire and operate on a predominantly business-to-business basis. All applications will also have to conform to EU procurement rules, requiring three quotes to be presented for any expenditure requested over £2,500.

Eligible businesses can find further information or submit an application via the Worcestershire Business Central website http://www.business-central.co.uk/bcs-grantcall/.
